Dear Parents and Friends,

Our accreditation team visited the St. Catherine School community this week.  Yesterday they presented their final report (which was very good) to the school leadership and will forward it along with our Self-Study to the WASC and WCEA commissions for review.  We will receive a letter by August with the final determination and accreditation term.  Team members, led by Mrs. Debilyn Janota from Oregon, were very impressed with our students, parents, teachers, and learning environment.  Their report was very positive and I am grateful to everyone who took part in the process, especially our teachers!  We are all breathing a huge sigh of relief.

It always surprises me that the beginning of the school year sees our students well groomed and in neat uniforms.  By the end of the year grooming slips and the uniform gets old and sloppy. While we are not yet at the end of the year, the process is clearly underway. I want to review the standards we work to uphold. Some of these points have not been addressed previously in the handbook, because as fashion trends change, so do uniform and grooming issues. Students who have difficulty adhering to these standards will be sent to the office to correct the problem. Be aware that this will take them from their learning environment. Next week we’ll review the uniform.

Grooming:

All:    Hair must be neat and clean and should not fall over the eyes.  This means it should have been combed or brushed that morning.  Highlighting, hair coloring, or semi-permanent decorations such as “bling string” are not acceptable.  Extreme hair styles, as determined by the administration, are not allowed.  Neither makeup nor nail polish is acceptable at any time during the school day.  Nails should be kept closely trimmed to the fingertip.

Girls:    Hair clips, barrettes, and head bands are acceptable.

Boys:    Hair must be kept at a length above a shirt collar (not t-shirt neckline).  Facial hair is not allowed.

The eighth grade class is holding a car wash this Sunday morning, March 7 from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm in front of Coyle Hall to raise money for their year end activity and banquet.  Please support our students and get your car washed, too!

Carnival is coming!  We will be sending carnival scrip home next week.

Re-enrollment packets are going home today.  Registering your child early for next year gives us an opportunity to plan and budget for next year.
